A Good Definition of Digital Transformation
The term "digital transformation" is used all the time. But what does it actually mean? I heard a helpful definition in a podcast.
- Podcast: Tara Lajumoke, managing director of FT Strategies, on digital transformation
- Summary: "As news organisations pivot to a digital-first model, we look at what we can learn from other sectors that thrive online."

A while ago, I started listening to some episodes of the journalism.co.uk podcast with Jacob Granger.
In this episode from 7 Oct 2022, he talks to Tara Lajumoke, the managing director of FT Strategies, a boutique consulting firm within the Financial Times. When they talked about digital transformation, she gave a short and powerful definition:
Digital Transformation is the process of involving an organisation to a point where it is able to harness the power of technology, data and strategy to fulfill its mission.
Tara also talked about metrics and other things which I found really helpful.
Often, βdigital transformationβ is used to describe anything and everything. Thatβs why the phrase has become somewhat meaningless to me. This definition helps me to have a clearer understanding of what real digital transformation can achieve.
